President's Welcome
Welcome to Berkeley City College’s accreditation Website. According to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), “accreditation is the process for evaluating and assuring the quality of education used by the American higher education community.” The accreditation standards clearly reflect standards of good practice. The Standards were crafted by peers (faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the public) and reflect minimum conditions of quality and services for accredited institutions. Maintaining an accredited status is a collective responsibility of the members of the Berkeley City College community. It is in that context that we are developing this Web site. The intent is to provide information on our progress reports, our planning agendas related to the accreditation standards, and our progress toward meeting the current accreditation standards including the development and assessment of student learning outcomes. The standards focus on the significance of student learning outcomes and the College’s responsibility to define and assess learning and to develop a culture of evidence that aims at improving programs and services, as well as developing strategies designed to improve teaching and learning. It is Berkeley City College’s responsibility to assess student learning outcomes and to ensure that student learning is paramount in all activities undertaken at the College. As an engaged learning community and a student-centered College, we take pride in responding to accreditation and reaffirming the need for continuous improvement and self reflection in an effort to improve the teaching/learning enterprise at Berkeley City College.
Dr. Betty Inclan
